I’ve been a photographer forever… My artistic vision and love of light are balanced by a technical expertise honed by years of study and application. I have worked in the fields of fashion, commercial, portraiture, products, flowers, wedding and photojournalism, and have taught the subject not only from the perspective of camera use, but also that of photography’s history and the way it’s affected how we see ourselves and the world around us. And based on this expertise, I’ve come to a conclusion about photography, a profound insight- a sensing somewhat akin to what Buddha referred to as a moment of Satori – that flash when it all comes together and you know you just got it what it’s all about.  Now since you’re at my website, I’m going to assume you’ve at least a passing interest in photography, so I’m gong to share this insight I’ve gone on about- If I had to sum up what photography is, being as concise as possible to explain the process to the layperson, I’d use one word… yeah, just one word: Magic! Yup, that’s it… that’s my expert conclusion- I see something and frame it, and hopefully the light’s to my liking, and then I press this button and a shutter opens letting in x amount of light for x amount of time to strikes a photo-receptive surface and records an image… Then according to the karma of the photo, it becomes a document or a work of art, and more often then not it becomes both… The simile that comes to mind is that it’s like having a baby: we know how it’s done, it can be explained scientifically; hopefully the act is performed with love and pleasure, and hopefully the result of all the above will be a source of joy- but these are just words, and somehow description falls short… Magic just is….  You get the picture or you don’t….
